The Paper Lab

3D Paper Making and Casting Workshop - Foundations

At The Paper Lab, we offer a unique opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge through a groundbreaking approach to paper-making. Guiding you through simple yet effective techniques, we move away from traditional methods, focusing on contemporary practices that highlight form, texture, and topography. What sets us apart is our emphasis on enabling you to mold and cast endless copies of your creations—making this the first time, in a plain studio setting, without the need for specialized machinery.

Our workshop essentially combines three key components: mold making, paper creation (using natural, recycled, or contemporary materials), and casting techniques. This means you'll not only learn the art of crafting molds but also explore various paper-making methods, from natural to recycled or contemporary, and finally, master the unique casting techniques we've developed.

Years of research and development have led to the creation of these unique methods. Our workshop offers you an opportunity to delve into this alternative approach to paper-making, drawing inspiration from classic techniques but also introducing novel applications that break away from tradition. Participants in the Foundations Workshop will learn how to make simple molds from various materials and techniques, create paper from natural, recycled, and alternative materials, and explore different methods of casting. Techniques like printing and casting, rusting paper, watermarking, and more will also be covered.
